New Mexico Developmental Disabilities Council (NMDDC)
The New Mexico Developmental Disabilities Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead statewide efforts that promote advocacy, systems change, and capacity building to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the Council and is responsible for implementing the Council’s Five-Year State Plan, overseeing agency programs and staff, administering federal and state funding, and advancing policies that support inclusion, independence, and community participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to implement the Council’s mission and State Plan.
- Oversee daily operations, programs, and staff of the Council.
- Manage federal Developmental Disabilities Act funding and the agency’s budget.
- Support the Council in advising the Governor, Legislature, and state agencies on disability policy.
- Build partnerships with community organizations, advocacy groups, and government partners.
- Promote leadership development and meaningful participation of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, social services, education, or related field (Masters preferred).
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership or management experience in disability services, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Experience managing public funds or federal grants.
- Knowledge of developmental disability policy and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Developmental Disabilities Councils or the Developmental Disabilities Act.
- Experience in disability advocacy, systems change, or policy development.
- Knowledge of guardianship or court-based programs.
- Lived experience with disability or as a family member of a person with a developmental disability.
